Sanctioned by the International 12 Metre Association (ITMA), Göteborgs Seglarklubb (GSK) and Marstrand’s Segelsällskap (MSS) are proud and honored to announce that they have been selected to host the world championships of the 12 Metre Class for 2026.

The Marstrand Station operates under the management of Göteborgs Seglarklubb (GSK), a club with deep roots in the 12 Metre Class. GSK has organized prestigious events such as the Marstrand 12 Metre Cup, the European Championships, and the World Championships. Many of GSK’s members were key figures in Sweden’s America’s Cup challenges in 1977 and 1980, campaigns that featured the iconic 12 Metre S-3 “Sverige”, designed and helmed by Pelle Petterson himself.

When GSK co-hosted the 12mR European Championship in 2019 alongside Skagen, Denmark, its leadership in the Marstrand Station was further cemented. The collaboration underscored the club’s enduring commitment to the 12 Metre Class and to Marstrand as a vibrant stage for classic yacht racing.

Special 12 metre class start during event

The Vele d'Epoca di Imperia in 2026 will celebrate its 40th anniversary and is anticipated to feature an enhanced program, including the hosting of the 12 Metre World Championship. This edition will be a significant milestone for the 12mR Grand Prix. Pre-registration information is also open, and the event takes place every two years, alternating with Porto Rotondo. From August 29th to September 1st, 2026, Imperia will host the 2026 ITMA World Championship, within the Imperia International Sailing Week.

This prestigious World Championship dedicated to the International Twelve Metre class will bring the iconic 12 Metres back to the Ligurian capital, competing in the waters of the Gulf of Imperia in a top-level international event.

Elegance, heritage, and high-level competition in the heart of Liguria.

Forty years represent a major milestone and, for this reason, Vele d’Epoca di Imperia is expanding in 2026, also hosting the 12 Metre World Championship, featuring the legendary yachts that competed in the America’s Cup campaigns from 1958 to 1987. One year before the next America’s Cup in Naples, the races in Imperia will revive the excitement of the epic challenges of Newport and Fremantle.

Two major sailing events will take place within the same festival, now officially renamed by the organizers as Imperia Sailing Week.

The ITMA approved Event measurer will be inspecting boats on August 27tth and 28th. Each boat must be made available for inspection and measurement checks during this period.
